Title
  • Bradfield C/2004 F4
Description
  • Comet Bradfield C/2004 F4
Imager
  • (c) Frank Jungclaus
Location
  • Wedemark, near Hannover, Germany
Date
  • April 25, 2004, Between 03:10 and 03:58 UT
Mount
  • Tripod
Camera
  • Canon 10d DSLR with 17-40mm L, F/4
Focallength
  • 40mm
Exposure
  • 14 raw-images, 800 ISO, F/4, 112 seconds, 3072x2048 pixels
Guiding
  • No guiding. Camera fixed on tripod
Processing
  • IRIS: crop, offset, 3 star registration to remove sky rotation, then registration on comets nucleus, logarithmic scaling, selective gaussian filter, 2 x soft-binning
  • Gimp: some level adjustment
Remark
  • Heavy ground level fog with visibility below 50m! It took me more then half an hour to find a location on a small hill 30m above the surrounding environment to come out of the fog.
After searching the "hole in the fog", setting up the equipment and spending further 15 minutes to locate Bradfield with my 7x50 field-glasses I found myself near end of the nautical twilight and the sky was already very bright! There is a second image from Bradfield to give an impression how bright the sky already was while taking the images.
